Numbers of older workers - increasing fast. Speed employers are responding - slow plod.

In the UK the employment rate for people aged 50 to 64 has grown from 55% to nearly 70% in the past 30 years. All the data from the DWP.

The rate of the 65+ still working has doubled in that period to over 10%.

Has work become so much more fun that it is hard to give up? Maybe for a few. Do older people need the money? Yep.

How are employers responding to having so many more older people around in the workplace. I think 'not at all' pretty much sums it up.

This trend is going to continue and probably accelerate. About time employers got real and started to make the workplace age friendly. Dick Stroud
